Focused

One area, worked properly. A single niggle, or a loosen off before or after a race.
Long runs and hard sessions leave something behind: tight calves, heavy quads, aching hamstrings. Leave it long enough and it starts to shape how you train.
Treatment after a long run or race eases the heaviness, so your next session feels normal again.
Regular treatment keeps tight, tired muscles moving through a heavy block, so you recover between sessions and turn up to the next one ready to train.
Every session starts with your training and injury history, and I keep assessing as I treat. Tight spots and early warning signs get picked up on the table while they're still small, and you leave knowing what to keep an eye on.
It won't replace sleep, easy miles or a plan that makes sense. It works alongside them.

"He provided me with an in depth consultation, identified issues I'm having and provided solutions to help my recovery… Highly recommend his services, especially if you are an avid runner."
Marathon runner and triathlete
"Ryan is a very professional and knowledgeable individual with a keen interest in sport, particularly within the realm of endurance sports such as running… Ryan was in contact with me after the massage to prescribe me with additional work I can be doing in my own time to ensure I remain injury free where possible."
Gym goer
"Really good, polite and professional experience, at a great price. Helped with ongoing niggles and improved flexibility in my quads and hamstrings."
Footballer
"Ryan shows a keen interest in helping me not only by giving me treatment, but understanding how my injury and tightness had come about… Ryan has also given me some aftercare such as stretches to go through which have also helped immensely."
HYROX athlete
"Great quality service, smooth booking process and easy to locate, would highly recommend."
I'm Ryan. I've run a 3:27 marathon and I'm working on bettering it. I also train triathlon and tennis, and I'm an avid hiker. I train alongside the people I treat. That's the whole point of Cairn & Gait: it's a community, not a clinic.
I'm a sport and exercise scientist, a graduate of Robert Gordon University, and a Level 4 sports massage therapist. Before starting Cairn & Gait I worked in sport science and performance analysis at Aberdeen FC.
That background shapes every session. We talk through your training and injury history first, then I treat, then you leave with aftercare you can do at home.
Message me on Instagram or email. Tell me what's going on and when suits you.
Most of the work is on the legs, so shorts make it easier. Anything is fine up top.
Come in through the revolving doors at 1 Marischal Square. I'll meet you at the green sofas just before your appointment.
We talk through your training and what's bothering you, so the treatment fits you.
Sports massage isn't meant to be relaxing, but you set the pressure throughout. You'll leave with aftercare to do at home.
No. Plenty of runners book to stay on top of their training, or to sort minor issues before they become bigger ones.
Yes. Footballers, climbers and gym goers all come through the door. The approach is the same: understand what you do, then treat it.
It depends on your training. Every two to four weeks works well during a heavy block. We'll work out what suits you.
Life gets in the way, so you can cancel for free up to 12 hours before your session. Any closer than that, or if you don't turn up, the session is charged before you rebook. A late cancellation is an hour I can't offer to anyone else, so this keeps things fair for everyone.
Card, cash or bank transfer.
